dienswilligheid en 'n liefde vir die eie uit te straal.

Historical synopsis :
The origin of organised education in Humansdorp can be traced back to August 1851 when the first " school " was started in the vestry of the revently comleted D.R. Church, with Mr. Jan Gerretze Bantjies as the first schoolmaster. Predictably, progress did not always run smoothly. Thanks to the untiring efforts of far-sighted community leaders the First Class School progressed to the Humansdorp Public School, the Milner Institute, the Humansdorp Public School and the Humansdorp High School, until secondary education finally gained recognition in the Nico Malan High School.

Because of its favourable geographic location the school, which is rural in character, but by no means isolated, is enjoying an exceptional period of growth characterised by an increasing enrolment figure and hither to unknown achievements in the academic, cultural and sporting spheres.

Die Skoolwapen :

Die bekende heraldikus, dr. C. Pama, is verantwoordelik vir die ontwerp van die wapen wat die boodskap van die dinge waarin ons glo, uitbeeld.

Die vuurtoring staan sentraal en die flitsende ligstrale verleen trefkrag aan die leuse " Kennis Verlig ".
Die simbole in die sypanele, die Fleur de Lis en
die Kasteel, is uit die familiewapen van dr. Nico Malan
geneem. Eersgenoemde is deur Franse konings toegeken vir
voortreflike diens en laasbenoemde versinnebeeld standvastigheid in die
Skepper, en trou teenoor die vaderland.

Om dit waarvoor Hoërskool Nico Malan staan en dit wat hy reeds vermag het in woorde te stel, is 'n omvattende opdrag. Hierdie skool se uitmuntende prestasies strek nie net oor 'n wye spektrum nie, maar hy het hom reeds bewys as leier op die gebied van opvoeding in die Oos-Kaap.

The outstanding academic and sport achievements of this school are evidence of a substructure which has Christian standards as its foundation.Truly, this confirms an education which is aimed at the individual pupil and one which acknowledges the integrity of each child.

Die uitvoerende komitee bied die ideale geleentheid aan demokraties-verkose leerders met leiereienskappe, wat ook oor moed, goeie oordeel, integriteit en toewyding beskik. Hul dien onder aanvoerding van die voorsitters as skakel tussen leerders en personeel. Hul funksioneer as regterhand van die personeel, maar terselfdertyd ook as kampvegters vir leerderbelange.

Vervoerdienste:

Hoërskool Nico Malan beskik oor 'n gereelde busdiens wat leerders van Jeffreysbaai, Astonbaai en ander omliggende gemeenskappe na en van die skool vervoer. Daar word ook voorsiening gemaak vir bogenoemde leerders wat sportoefeninge bywoon. Maandae en Vrydae ry die busse ook op die roete na en van Hankey en Patensie om die koshuisleerlinge tuis te besorg of te gaan haal. Vir verdure navrae skakel asb die sekretaresse by 042 295 1130.

Scrolls and especially colours are only awarded for outstanding achievements of exceptional quality. A prerequisite for each award is a positive attitude, exemplary conduct and loyal dedication to the school ethos. Scrolls and colours are awarded for outstanding achievements in all school activities.

Special awards:

These certificates are awarded to learners for creditable performances in spheres other than bona fide school activities.

Medals:

Exceptional achievements on national of higher level are rewarded by special medals.
