The Interact Club of Nico Malan had a successful term in 2008/2009.
We visited Sonstraal School for mentally disabled children and painted their playground in bright colours. We also fixed their netball court and donated netball balls. The Interactors gave them a party and played with the children.
We also had a soup project for Hospice. The club raised over 100 litres of soup.
Interact organised a 'P-party' themed dance to raise funds for Rotary's Polio project. We raised over R4 000 and donated this money to help eradicate polio from the world.
Interactors also visited a penguin rehabilitation project in St Francis. They washed penguin cages and collected over 100 towels used to care for oiled penguins.
Interact had numerous cake sales and used the funds to buy blankets for a shelter for the homeless at a local township.
We also collected toys for a crèche in Kwanomzamo and painted their playground in bright colours.
Interact had an 'Adopt a child for Christmas' project for the Hankey Children's Home. A group of Interactors were appointed to a child and bought him/her gifts. When all the presents were wrapped, we went to visit the Home. Interactors played games with the children and had a lot of fun.
We also visited the Supertubes Foundation which rescues indigenous plants. Interactors helped plant new plants and were shown around the terrain. The trip was enjoyed immensely and a new appreciation was created for indigenous plants and their preservation.
